2020: A New Decade of Opportunity for Statisticians

U.S. News & World Report’s annual jobs ranking list shows statistics continues to offer great careers with above-average salaries, broad applications, and low unemployment.

Statistician ranked as the #1 Best Business Job, and #6 among the top 100 Best Jobs across all categories! It also ranked #6 among the Best STEM Jobs

If you’ve followed these rankings in previous years or read our statistician profiles, this probably doesn’t surprise you. In the U.S. News & World Report statisticians profile, executive director of Merck Research Laboratories biostatistics department, Devan Mehrotra, says:

“I absolutely fell in love with statistics. Any real-world problem almost always is going to require some data to be analyzed and interpreted, generating value-added solutions by using statistics.”

Opportunities for statisticians are expected to grow most rapidly in the coming years in fields ranging from biomedicine, environmental science, social science, human rights work and counterterrorism. But statisticians are needed in essentially every field, so stats skills can open the door to any passion!

A career in statistics can empower you to make a difference in the world. And, statisticians are in demand. As of the most recent projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, statistics is one of the fastest-growing fields in the United States with a projected growth rate of 31 percent between 2018 and 2028.
